A Morning in the Park

I had been waiting for this day all week. It was forecasted that today was going to be above 70 degrees, and I was more than hopeful that they were right! But last night as I was leaving a friend's house, it was warmer than when I had arrived there 3 hours prior, and I knew the weather prediction was going to be right!
Hooray! :)
This morning, as soon as I could get food into Evan's belly and clothes onto us all, we loaded up his new bike and took him out to the park to ride.
This was John's first time to be out with Evan, minus Emma. (who stayed the night at her friend's house). It just melted my heart and soul into one big mess of adoration and love to see them there, asking for and giving help throughout the winding paths.
Evan did SO well! He absolutely loves this bike.

He eventually steered us all to the playground for a little play break. I had never seen him more proud than when he shows his daddy all the things he can do and climb.
It was like a tornado of seasons into one. We had a spring day, in the winter, with fall still prominently laying across the grounds. It was beautiful.
My sister always liked the phrase that goes something like "Without the bitter, the sweet isn't as sweet". I think days like this are what reminds me how much I miss the fall and spring, when we can be outside, walking, playing, riding, sliding, and just being. And we can stay out for as long as we please, because it's
 just.
that.
perfect.

By the time we returned home with Emma in tow, the weather outside was warmer than it was inside.
Emma decided that she should wear a dress, because the weather girl told her so :), and I decided that the windows should not be allowed to stop the beauty of God's spleandor that has arrived today, and opened them all!
Thank you for sending us this day, and please send a few of these to the east and west, where people are in dire need of a day such as this, to remind them that rainstorms and blizzards are just bitter so as to sweeten days like these!
Enjoy!

Leaps & Bounds!

It was a very important day today.
Evan had his exit evaluation from speech this afternoon, and has come SO far from when he started less than a year ago!
Most of his scores were above average now (yay!), so he was officially released from the program!
It's GREAT news, except for the fact that he's gonna miss his friend, Miss Angie, visiting every couple weeks :(
In case you don't remember, he was speaking well until around 18 months, when he abruptly stopped. I had fears of early autism or other speech disorders, so he was enrolled in the program at that time. Since then, he sings songs, knows all his letters and numbers up to 13, he can understand complicated direction and speech, and has come leaps and bounds from where he was at the start.
We are overwhelmingly proud of our little guy.
Thank you for all your hard work, Ms. Lesile, Ms. Angie, and especially sister and dad, who constantly encourage him to learn, explore, and speak!
Our problem now is getting him to STOP talking when he needs to be quiet, but I now know that it's a good problem to have.
What a blessing!

Buzz. Bike.

The weather was not too cold this afternoon, so Evan got to go out and ride his "Buzz. Bike." (as he says)  outside for the first time!
Watching him pedal up and down the street literally filled my eyes with tears. Wasn't he JUST a tiny little being?! He was safe and small, tucked in my warm tummy, listening to my voice and the echoes of soon to be family members.
The tiny little legs that wiggled and kicked inside my ever expanding belly were now there in front of me, peddaling down the same street I walked him down his whole life.
Little tiny squirmy boy, growing up so fast.
Soon, you'll be riding to school, to friends' houses, to the park.
 But for now,
pedal as far as you can...
 Because...
I'll always be here to pedal back to.
Merry Christmas, little Evan.
Those little legs have come a long way!
We're so proud of you :)

Amongst the Paper and Bows...

'Twas the night before Christmas and all through our house,
were footie pajamas and talk of an elf.
Late in the night the jolly man came, finding cookies decorated with candy cane...
He left two special packages, on them were two special names...

The break of dawn brought squeals and giggles of excitement galore,
and the aftermath was quite the eye sore!!
The smell of cooking ham brought house guests to the door...
...and it meant it was time to open some more!

The sky dimmed slowly, and the candles were lit...
...and the sun set on our day with Saint Nick.
The next day we awoke with a shudder, it was time to head north, to the inlaw father and mother.
A couple more books, a zhu-zhu or two,
We're hoping for a good new year for all of us, and all of you!

COOKIES!!

It's time for Christmas cookies!!
I pulled out my mom's Sugar Cookie recipe, and the kids got to help make some yummy-in-the-tummy cookies!!
Evan & Ethan came to help mix the dough, but went off to nap, so Gav & Em took over from there.
 Cutting the cookies!
 Time to decorate!
 Ready to bake!
 Cooling cookies smelled SOOOO good!
 Emma's family :)
